Hey guys! Happy Friday! I was inspired to start a new series on my blog; I’m thinking of sharing some baby updates every couple of months. I love hearing about other moms’ typical days and routines with their babies, so I thought I’d share mine! Keep in mind that every baby is different. I see many other babies weekly and I noticed how different each child is. Not only regarding their size, but their development also. That said, I won’t be sharing the progress in my baby boy’s weight and height, just because there’s no need to compare here. Also, this current every day schedule/routine varies often, but this is the pattern I’ve noticed lately. Let me know if I forgot to mention anything or if you have any questions, simply write them in the comments!
Around 5:45-6am – UP
6am – Nurse & Play
7:30am to 9am – Nap
9am – Nurse, play & cereal
11am to 11:45am – Nap (this nap length varies between 30mins to 1 hour)
Noon – Nurse & Play
2:30pm to 3:15pm – Nap (he has a short nap in the afternoon, time varies)
3:30pm – Nurse, play, cereal & puree
Between 6pm & 7pm – Nurse & Bed (1 night feed around 2:30am)
As you can read in the typical routine above, he usually has 3 naps a day, varying between 30mins to 2hrs each. He sleeps 11 to 12 hours at night & still wakes up once to feed. I’m very happy with his nights, considering he had a terrible sleep regression at 4 months. I had to do sleep training because I couldn’t take it anymore. At 6 months, they should be able to sleep the whole night without eating. Again, each baby is different. I still feel like he eats a lot during this night feed, so I believe he needs it. Lately however, he sometimes eats for less than 1 minute and falls asleep, so he definitely is close to being able to sleep the whole 12 hours. I will have to use my mom gut feeling soon and decide when it will be time to cut that night feed. Hopefully he will just stop waking up magically by himself one day, soon (prob not).
I nurse him about 6 times a day. A little something new at 6 months… solids! We started introducing baby cereal around 5 1/2 months. He loves cereal! Barley, rice, oatmeal, he likes them all! Purees however… that’s another story. I mean, who likes bland blended chicken? I don’t blame him. I’m focussing more on veggies right now, even though they recommend meats first. The only foods he doesn’t really mind right now are sweet potato, carrot and banana. A work in progress! I hear it gets better once they start eating little pieces. I sure hope so.
He sits by himself now! I always sit with him because sometimes he still loses balance, but he’s pretty good! He rolls over (been doing it for a few weeks now), but not often. He doesn’t care that much about rolling over. Working on his leg muscles now so he can learn to crawl! I tell ya – he doesn’t miss much! He turns his head to sounds or any distraction and knows when I’m filming him. He loves looking at himself in the camera or a mirror haha, he just smiles. I think he thinks he looks good (which he does, of course!). He’s very curious. I have to nurse him in his room quietly, otherwise he gets way too distracted. I think I’ll have my hands full pretty soon! Oh, and he’s always reaching over when Sadie walks by now. That poor puppy doesn’t know what’s coming! He’s already poked her eyes multiple times and grabbed her lips. I think it’s pretty cute 😉
SO many positives! He only cries (more like whining) when something is really wrong; diaper, hungry or tired. So it’s much easier to determine what the issue is and fix it quickly! He’s super healthy and growing very well, we’re very fortunate. Nursing is still going really well for us. He’s such a happy boy, he smiles a ton and loves his mama and papa (and puppy)! Yesterday, I was jumping around because I heard a good news and he started giggling – he thought I was hilarious! I died. Although he goes to bed very early, which makes it hard to have a social life, it’s nice to have the evenings to myself and enjoy some quality time with hubby.
2 weeks ago, his 2 bottom teeth came out! Such a surprise! He didn’t seem to have much teething pain before. However, I feel like the pain is bothering him more now. It’s hard to see him in pain and not be able to do much. Also, since we started cereal, he has MAJOR poop explosions almost every day. Emergency bath type explosions. Some days I’m afraid to leave my house, in case it happens elsewhere! Another negative (minor) is the early bedtime. He’s been going to bed between 6 and 7 for a couple of months now. It’s hard to have a life in the evenings or even go to dinner at someone else’s house. But it’s temporary. Also the early mornings… 5:45am is pretty brutal. Again, temporary (I tell myself).
Now that the snow has melted and that it finally feels like Spring, I’m so excited for the Summer with this little dude! Can’t wait to sit him down in the sand. If you’re curious to know how everything went for me post-birth to 5 months, read this blog post! We’re off to our first mom & baby swimming class now, exciting! Thanks for reading!
