Hey guys! A couple of months ago, I wrote about Life with a 6 month old. My little man is turning 9 months this coming Friday, so I’m sharing today what life is like with an 8 month old (in my house at least)! I will continue to keep sharing some baby updates every couple of months. Feel free to ask questions in the comments!
Around 5:30-5:45am – UP
6am – Nurse & Play
7:15am to 8:45am – Nap
9am – Nurse, play & breakfast
11:30am to 1pm – Nap (length varies)
1pm – Nurse & Play
4pm to 4:30pm – Nap (he has a short nap in the afternoon, time varies)
4:30pm – Nurse, play & dinner
Around 7pm – Bath, nurse & bed (no more night feeds!!!)
I’m thrilled to say that around 7 1/2 months, he FINALLY started sleeping through the night!!! No more night feeds. He started doing this on his own (I was about to start sleep training to cut the last night feed, didn’t need to after all). Once in a while (rarely), he will wake up in the night, usually because of teething or a bad dream, but I never need to nurse him, he falls back to sleep pretty quickly by himself. He still has 2 to 3 naps a day and I find they got longer in length and much more predictable. His bed time varies from 6pm to 8pm depending on the naps he’s had that day. Doesn’t affect the time he wakes up though.
Enjoying solids more and more! I still find it a bit difficult to know if I’m doing it right, I’m such a perfectionist. However, I do know that all he needs right now is my milk & baby cereal a few times a day for the lack of iron. The rest is just for fun. I skipped the purées phase pretty quickly, he would just gag on everything. I gave up and started offering him pieces of food. Much more success that way! I still nurse, I plan on doing so until he turns 1 (at least), but I will start to introduce cow’s milk soon (to prep him for when I go back to work… *tears*).
He’s much more stable sitting down. He tries to sit up on his own, he’s close! He stands pretty well on his legs, but doesn’t crawl yet. He’s very alert and doesn’t miss a thing! Very vocal as well, this guy communicates a ton. His upper central incisors came out last week! He now has 4 teeth and I can’t believe it. Recently, he started crying when someone walks up to him too fast and picks him up or touches him. It’s like he didn’t have enough time to process what was happening. This has happened with people he sees often too, it’s so sad to see! He gets over it quick though. I warn people to take their time 😉 He’s definitely way more attached to his mama and papa.
His personality is showing more and more, so fun. His routine is pretty similar every day, so it makes it easy to plan outings around it. Even if I break his routine (which has been happening a lot lately since it’s Summertime), he reacts well, he’s so easy going! He surprises me every day.
I feel like the teething pain is getting more and more painful for him when he has teeth that are just about to come in. Thankfully, this doesn’t last too long and doesn’t affect his sleep too much. Since he’s eating more solids, he’s had a hard time with his poop. I hear it’s all normal, but it’s hard to see him in pain when trying to push his poop out. I try to keep him well hydrated and give him the right foods to avoid constipation, but it’s still an issue. I guess he has to adjust to the new foods he’s eating!
